Cathédrale du couvent Smolny.
Cathédrale de culte orthodoxe depuis 2009, elle fait partie
du couvent dont le clocher se trouve séparé, à quelques mètres de l'entrée principale.
Musée de l'Ermitage ou
Palais d'Hiver
C'est
le plus grand musée du monde en termes d'objets exposés.
L’Ermitage,
tant comme complexe architectural que comme collection d’art, est l’œuvre de
l’impératrice Catherine la Grande. Ces tableaux furent dans un premier temps entreposés dans le palais
d'Hiver. Catherine acquit par la
suite un grand nombre de peintures, parfois des collections entières, en partie
pour satisfaire sa passion de collectionneuse, en partie pour prouver à
l’Europe occidentale le caractère éclairé et cultivé de la Russie et de
Saint-Pétersbourg
Avec
ses 230 000 m² de surface, dont 66 000 m² consacrés
aux expositions, il s'agit de l'un des trois plus grands musées d'art du monde aux côtés du Louvre et du Metropolitan
Museum
Les
bâtiments abritant le musée de l’Ermitage constituent un des principaux
ensembles du centre de Saint-Pétersbourg qui est classé au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO.
